The French government has passed a new law aimed at reducing the population’s exposure to PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances). Often referred to as “forever chemicals,” these chemicals have been used for decades in a variety of products, from water-repellent clothing to non-stick coatings. Despite their useful properties, it is becoming increasingly clear how harmful they are to both the environment and human health.

The presence of PFAS in Flemish tap water raises serious questions about public health and the responsibility of policymakers. While scientific insights about the harmful effects of these 'forever chemicals' are becoming increasingly clear, the political response remains lukewarm and inadequate.
