For years, 3M emitted gigantic amounts of the extremely heavy greenhouse gas HFC-23. The chemical company did not report this pollution until 2019. The Flemish government then gave the company 341,235 euros in 'strategic ecological support', intended to build a plant that limits emissions. Converted into CO2, the emissions are good for approximately 4% of Flemish greenhouse gas emissions annually.
