The expansion drive of the Port of Antwerp knows no bounds. The Oosterweel connection, the construction of industrial areas along the Albert Canal and a petrochemical highway through the Kempen will swallow up the bulk of the Flemish investment budget. Environmental standards do not seem to apply to polluting companies in the port. The pressure on people and the environment and on the rest of Flanders is gradually becoming untenable.
