A large part of the European population would ingest more PFAS daily than is safe according to the standards recently calculated by the European Food Safety Authority EFSA. This is partly due to the drinking water containing excessively high concentrations of these harmful chemicals. The main culprit is PFOS, one of the various PFAS, with which the soils in and around the premises of the 3M chemical factory in Zwijndrecht are heavily polluted.
